The Austin Volunteer Fire Department is a very small department, with its 25 active members and 15 social members we seem to manage to get through the past 125 years. Our Department is a joint department with Fire and Ambulance running out of the same building, with the Fire side running around 54 calls per year and the Ambulance running around 122 calls per year. The Department itself runs calls all over the bottom of Potter County.
It is a vital thing to get money and to make money; we do have fundraisers (see fundraising tab) and have bingo that brings in a lot of our money. But due to the fact that we are so small and don’t get the high call population staying in the positive for money is very hard, and we rely on donations and other community support to keep our doors open.
